Your flights are producing changes in climate. Every time you fly, you are contributing to global warming.
To encourage and create an environmental awareness, would it be great if the cabin attendant announced the environmental impact on your long-haul flight from Bangkok to Copenhagen while the fasten seat belt sign was turned off? What’s next?
Apart from CO2 emissions from your flight, the formation of cirrostratus clouds and/or contrails, the formation of the greenhouse gas ozone in a sensitive atmospheric layer, the cooling effect of methane decomposition, the impacts of the exhausts of aircraft engine on the atmosphere (especially on high altitude) are the greatest contribution on global warming. Find out more on “What impacts do the exhausts of aircraft engines on the atmosphere, especially in high altitudes” and Contrails and Aircraft-Induced Cloudiness (IPCC Forth Assessment Report: Climate Change 2007: The Physical Science Basis)
Passengers should be informed about the full ecological footprint based on the current state of science. (more on Atmosfair.de and Intergovernmental Panel On Climate Change (IPCC))
How to offset your carbon footprint.
How much GHG emissions are caused by your individual flight.
Find emission calculation from web we love:
Atmosfair (atmosfair.de), Climate Friendly (climatefriendly.com), My Climate (Myclimate.org) and start offsetting your carbon footprint. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) suggests that we need to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions to around 2 tonnes per person by 2050.

Carbon Offset Research & Education (CORE) on Total Climate effects on Aviation
Carbon Offset Research & Education (CORE) is an initiative of the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI). SEI is an independent, international research institute bridging science and policy for sustainable development. CORE’s mission is to foster offset programs and policies that maximize their potential benefits, while minimizing their potential risks. The CORE team conducts cutting-edge research to inform policy makers and the general public.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is the leading body for the assessment of climate change, established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to provide the world with a clear scientific view on the current state of climate change and its potential environmental and socio-economic consequences.
How does the carbon offset work?
There are many international organizations (e.g. Climate Friendly, My Climate, Atmosfair) dedicated to positive and real action to address the greenhouse gasses (GHG) problem and take action on climate change by committing to fund and contribute to growing the renewal energy projects in many countries and help the local population.
1. When you have an air travel flight or previous year flights, you can voluntarily pay for GHG caused by flying e.g. from Bangkok to New York. Payment can be done on either web site and/or travel agent, airline.
2. The company will help measuring your carbon footprint, assisting you to achieve emissions reductions and encourage the use of carbon offsets as cost-effective method of reducing greenhouse gasses emissions.
3. The company invests fund in climate protection project, renewal energy projects (e.g. solar power, wind power, hydropower, biomass, biogas) in many developing countries.
(Remark: There are both international certified certification and independent accredited organizations control how the money contributes and implements to the projects.)
AVANTAIR
To response the environmental crisis nowadays, Avantair is the first aircraft carrier which begins offsetting carbon emissions in the industry by purchasing carbon offset project from TerraPass. Therefore, the jet fuel is burnt in the fractional industry about 98 gallons per hour that is the lowest fuel burn and the most efficient of all fractional aircrafts.
According to TerraPass’s principles, there are 3 types of carbon offset projects which is audited according to standards set by the non-profit Center for Resources Solutions, Green-e, the America’s leading renewable energy and greenhouse gas emission reductions certification and verification program.
- Clean energy such as wind
- Farm power such as dairy farm methane digesters
- Landfill gas capture which reduces the impact of our own waste
Learn more on the carbon offset projects of TerraPass at www.terrapass.com
Make sure to select the good governance company that
-
Commit to the highest environmental and climate protection;
-
High standard of emissions calculation, project selection and funds allocation;
-
Use serious monitoring mechanisms and detailed information, to guarantee that the money really goes where it should and benefits environmental and climate protection.
There is still no legal restriction in Thailand which would limit air travel emissions to a moderate level. You can make the Green blue sky.
Greening your flights, pay what you emitted, earn carbon credit.
